• Obituary: News and Observer, 24 Feb 1950, Raleigh, Wake Co, NC. 2916 Siler City -- Mrs. Oppie B. Councilman, 62, wife of John M. Councilman of Bonlee, died at her home at 10:05 o-clock Wednesday night following four weeks of serious illness and three years of failing health. A native of Chatham County, she was a daughter of the late Caleb Beal and Sarah Smith Beal. Funeral services will be held at the Bonlee Baptist CHurch, of which she was a member, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Hope Cemetery at Bonlee. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are: three daughters, Mrs. Harold Haught of Washington, Mrs. George Allred of Greensboro and Mrs. Floyd Maness of Durham; eight sons, Charlie M., Howard L., and Lester W. Councilman, all of Bonlee, Marvin M. Councilman of Fayetteville, Wilburn C. Councilman of Portsmouth, Va., Odell J. Councilman of Chapel Hill, Ledford H. and Osborne J. Councilman, both of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Scott of Bear Creek and Mrs. Henry Neal of Detroit, Mich., three brothers; Herbert E. Beal of Goldsboro, N. C. Beal of Sanford and Joe Beal of Greensboro, two half-brothers: Leon Beal of High Point and Charlie Beal of Bear Creek; and nine grandchildren.
