Based on age in 1810 census, should be born between 1765 and 1784. Based on 1820 census, should be born between 1775 and 1794. However, based on 1830 and 1840 census. should be born between 1760 and 1770, so there is no timeframe that works for all census records. Guess would be around 1775.
Based on appearance on jury in 1795 should be born before 1775.

1. Appearance in Document: Jury for Road, 11 May 1795, Sampson County, North Carolina, United States. Ordered that a new road be laid off and that James Westbrook, Westbrook Lee, Willis West, Francis Hill, Bartholomew Gainey, Noel Gainey, Elias Gainey, Abraham Gainey, and Joab Blackman be a Jury to lay it off. Ordered that Bartholomew Gainey, Joab Blackman, James Westbrook, Joseph Westbrook, John Gainey, Westbrook Lee, Willis West, and others work on the new road leading from the road just below Josiah Blackman's the most convenient way to the Cape Fear road between the Maple Branch and Cooper Vick's. (Sampson County Court Minutes 11 May 1795)

Three tracts of land bearing date June 27 1757 and registered 1759, recorded in book 10 page 268 and surveyed for William Cockran, 200 acres old patent land which was conveyed to Elias and Abraham Ganey by their father Bartholemew Gainey by virtue of two deeds, first deed conveyed to Elias Ganey in 1797 containing 150 acres, second deed conveyed to Abraham Gainey by Bartholomew containing 150 acres. Two tracts of land in Sampson County containing 200 acres on the east side of Great Cohera. All together four tracks containing 500 acres. Written 27 Jan 1819. Registered 16 June 1820.

[This could be either Elias Gainey son of Bartholomew, or Elias Gainey son of Abraham. Since Elias is in Sampson County, it is probably son of Bartholomew.]
