LOFTIN, Isabella

  • Born: 19 Dec 1693, Musketta Creek, St George's Parish, Baltimore, Maryland
  • Marriage (1): PENNINGTON, Unknown
  • Marriage (2): TEAGUE, William in 1714 in Cecil County, Maryland Colony
  • Died: 1737, Cecil County, Maryland Colony

  Birth Notes:

Isabella Loftin, wife of William Teague, was b 19 Dec 1693 at Musketta Creek, St George's Parish, Baltimore, MD, and d 1737 in Cecil Co, MD. (According to Teague Family Index on web at

Noted events in her life were:

1. Story. 36 Isabell Loftin, daughter of William, born 19 December 1693 (Parish Register, St. George's Church, Harford Co, MD, 1681-1799, p182).

2. Story. Occasionally, the following is published on various geneaology sites as fact: William Teague b. ca 1693, Cecil County, MD, wife Isabella Loftin b. 19 Dec 1693. However, several very assiduous researchers have been UNABLE to verify that. It is also possible that the wife referred to was Isabella Pennington (ca 1697, Cecil County, MD). One of those researchers, Ashley Loftin, was kind enough to send me photocopies of records that he had examined during his years of hands-on research. Indeed, there is no reference to anyone but an Isabell/Isabella. This is an on-going unsolved gap in our information. Unless solid evidence has come to light (evidence many of us would love to examine), please be advised that this controversy exists for both the Loftin/Lofton researchers and the Pennington researchers. 3. Story. There is an ongoing (and probably never ending) controversy concerning the marriage of William Teague, as to whether it was to Isabella Pennington or Isabella Loftin. Early, when I first began researching, I came across an old book (which has since disappeared from my local library) that gave the wife as Isabella Pennington. Others out there insist it was Isabella Loftin. All I can tell you is no one has found hard documentation to support this either way, as I cannot produce the publication I found my information in, and other researchers seem to be going on the elimination theory (meaning which Isabella can be documented in relation to the Teagues the most). 4. Story. 1183 It is believed that William married Isabella when he became of age and inherited his father's land, probably in 1714 when he disposed of the 160 acres of land. Isabella's name appears on a Deed of Sale dated 1 Sept 1736.

5. Story. 2372 William Teague married Isabela (Loftin) Pennington, dau of Thomas Loftin. ("Marylanders to Carolina. Migration of Marylanders to North Carolina and South Carolina Prio to 1800", Henry C Peden, Jr, 1994)

Isabella married Unknown PENNINGTON. (Unknown PENNINGTON died before 1714.)

Isabella next married William TEAGUE, son of Edward TEAGUE and Susan UNKNOWN, in 1714 in Cecil County, Maryland Colony. (William TEAGUE was born in 1693 in Cecil County, Maryland Colony 2315 and died in 1775 in Rowan County, North Carolina Colony.)

Noted events in their marriage were:

1. Story, 1715, Cecil County, Maryland Colony. William Teague married Isabella Penington 1715 in Cecil, Maryland, daughter of Edward Pennington and Sarah Jennings. (posted on Teague Genforum on 16 Feb 2000)
