10. Story. Joseph (Joe) Daniel Bacon was son of Calvin (1819-1869) and Louisa Pugh (15 Aug 1836-1919). Calvin was from a long line of Methodist ministers, stemming from Connecticut. Calvin (and Louisa, evidently) moved from NC to vicinity of Atlanta, GA, thence to Atlanta IL prior to outbreak of Civil War. Calvin was in railroad construction. Although overage, he enlisted in Co E, 106th Illinois Infantry Regiment and served out the war. Of two children, Joe and Samuel, Samuel died while Calvin was away. Son William born after the war. Calvin died just four years after being mustered out, in Linn County, Missouri, his second move from Illinois. Widow and sons returned to Burlington, NC area. Around this time, William Lindley lost his wife Frances. After return of Louisa Pugh Bacon and death of Frances, widower William Lindley married widow Louisa on 31 Oct 1875 in Saxapahaw.
