7. Obituary: Tampa Tribune, 5 Oct 2011, Tampa, Florida, United States. HAYWOOD, James A., passed away October 1, 2011, in Canton, Ga. Born in Bainbridge, Ga., in 1920, he lived the greatest portion of his life in Tampa. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard . He was retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad after overseeing the operations at the Port of Tampa phosphate facility. A member of Palma Ceia Baptist Church, he was active in church activities, including Meals on Wheels and Hospice outreach. A Master Mason, he was a member of A.W. Windhorst Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Chastain Hammond Haywood of Canton, Ga. Also surviving are his three children, Virginia Weddington and husband, Larry, of Bristol, Tenn., Walter Haywood of Zepherhills, Fla., and Brenda Jones and husband, Don, of Altoona, Fla. He had three grandchildren, Daniel Haywood of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Sarah Weddington of Powell, Tenn., and John Weddington of Knoxville, Tenn., and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Thursday, October 6, with a funeral service at 2 p.m., at JGR Funeral Home. Burial will follow immediately at Myrtle Hills Cemetery.
