bullet  Death Notes:

He died while working on the farm, with some kind of fever (according to Gladys Haywood Lindley)

bullet  Burial Notes:

Buried at Haywood Cemetery. To get there, take 53 East [from where, source doesn't say] and travel about 2 miles. Cemetery is on right just beyond Hood's Auto Electric [in 1999]. The two stones are on a mound of dirt. They say "Haywood, W J D Jan 3 1851/Nov 12 1889. Haywood, Virginia A March 17? 1855/Dec 4 1896" (Cumberland County Cemetery Survey, Volume 1, Cumberland Co Genealogical Society, 1999, found at DAR Library)

Buried at Gainey home, but the home and the cemetery there are both gone. The house was on Cedar Creek Rd, by Cape Fear River. [Since county cemetery survey shows him buried at Haywood cemetery, does this mean that the Haywood Cemetery is at the same location as the Gainey home was? Or is one of these burial locations in error?]

"Find a Grave" website lists both "William D Haywood" and "Virginia A Haywood" at Adams Cemetery. It places the cemetery at 5755 Shipman Road, on the east side of US 301, between 301 and Shipman Rd, near where 301 has an interchange with I-95 in Cumberland Co, south of Hope Mills.
