1. Census, 1850, Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. William G Allen is 7, living with parents. (Alamance Co, South District, p36)

2. Military Service: Confederate Soldier, 4 Sep 1862. 4616 Son William Graham Allen was known as "Gray". He in company with about 20 others decided to travel to Texas to avoid the Civil War. They had reached the western part of North Carolina when they were detected by a group of Confederates who would have inducted them in the army. All the boys made their getaway by running down an old trail and scattering in the deep woods except Gray and one other boy. They were caught. He enlisted at Raleigh on 4 Sep 1862 and served until taken prisoner by the Union on 6 Feb 1865. He was released on 12 May 1865 in Maryland with only the clothes he wore and his canteens. He walked back to Snow Camp, living on food he could find and handouts. After this, he farmed and worked as a carpenter in Graham, NC.
