6. Obituary, 26 Apr 1984, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, United States. 97 Irene Haywood, 92, of 1614 17th Ave., Columbus, died Thursday at Oak Manor Nursing Home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church Chapel, with burial in Riverdale Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary's Macon Road Chapel. Mrs. Haywood was born Dec. 10, 1891, in Wigham, Ga., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles. H. Martin. A homemaker, she had lived in Columbus for the past 60 years and was the widow of Walter E. Haywood. She belonged to First Baptist Church and was long active in its Sunday school. Survivors include six daughters, Alice Virginia Haywood, Mrs. John D. Holland, Mrs. Charles M. Evert and Mrs. Lee R. Grogan of Columbus, Mrs. Frank Sharpe of Miami Springs, Fla., and Mrs. Howard Ethington of Tucker, Ga.; a son, Walter E. Haywood Jr. of Columbus; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may go to charity.
