2. Military Service, 5 Jun 1861. 1463 Enlisted in Co. B, 26th NC Infantry Regiment (Jackson Guards) as 3rd Corporal on 5 Jun 1861 at Monroe. He was wounded 12 July 1863 and again 30 Oct 1863, both in the Richmond area. He received a third wound at Charlottesville 10 May 1864, was captured 27 Oct 1864 at Petersburg, paroled 28 Mar 1865 at Point Lookout, MD, and transferred to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange.

3. 4. Story. 1463 From a letter from John Stewart McCain to his son in Arkansas [partially edited, spelling and grammar from source]: "Saturday 7th 1901. Dear Son I devided my land in five Lotts No. I placed the Names of you boys in a hat and gave it to Johnnie Billieu I put the Land Tickets in a hat and gave it to Roxie Billieu and put a blind fold on them and each would "draw" a Ticket and give to Billie Billieu and he would call out the Names and (Number) a lotted to each (one) Leeper drawed the home place Gaines the George Cureton Track. Eddie the Hudson House H.H.McCain the Island Track J.D.C. McCain the Spring Bottom Track you and Jim to get Lumber off the other 3. tracks to put up a Tenant House I hope you will all will be Sattisfied..."
