1. Appearance in Document, 20 Dec 1727, Surry County, Virginia Colony. 943 The will of Francis's father George Hagood mentions "my tow Sons Francis & Richard Hagood Each of them a Gon."

2. Property, 2 Mar 1741, Brunswick County, Virginia, United States. John Hagood sold 100 acres on south side of Totero Creek for 5 shillings to a younger brother, Francis Hagood, "being land where said Frances [sic] Hagood now lives". (Brunswick Co Record Book 2, p140)

3. Appearance in Document, 1748, Brunswick County, Virginia, United States. Francis listed in the Brunswick Co tithe list.

4. Residence, 1749. Francis not listed in the 1749 Brunswick Co tithe list.

5. Residence, Cir 1768, Bute County, North Carolina, United States. 2606 Francis may have moved across the border into Bute Co, NC (presently Warren Co) in the late 1760s. He does not appear on the Bute Co tax of 1766. However, in the 1771 tax in Bute Co, on Col William Johnson's list is "Francis Hogwood, sons William and Reuben" for 3 polls. A version of this list published in "North Carolina Genealogy" incorrectly transcribed the name as Haywood.

6. Story. 2607 Bute County formed from Granville County in 1746. Bute County is a pivotal county in research. The Trading Road passed through the county, and many people from eastern Virginia and the Valley of Virginia came to Bute County. Some settled permanently, others stayed only for a few years, or perhaps for a generation. Many people left Bute County and came further south and west to western North Carolina.

7. Property, 16 Feb 1770. 2608 Francis Hagwood of Bute Co, NC, purchased from Thomas Eaton 247.5 acres "described in a deed from Thomas Johns, Jr, to Daniel Pegram" (Book 3, p32). This was apparently the same tract on Owens Creek that "William Hagwood and Sarah his wife, Reuben Hagwood and Phebe his wife and Francis Hagwood and Sarah his wife" sold for 120 to Permanus Williams on 18 Dec 1777 (Book 6, p287).

8. Appearance in Document, 16 Aug 1770, Bute County, North Carolina, United States. 2609 John Laughter is appointed overseer of a road. Among the people who's hands are assigned to work on the road is Francis Hogwood (Bute County court minutes, p140).

9. Property, 18 Dec 1777, Bute County, North Carolina, United States. 2608 William Hagwood and Sarah his wife, Reuben Hagwood and Phebe his wife and Francis Hagwood and Sarah his wife sold 247.5 acres for 120 to Permanus Williams (Book 6, p287).

10. Appearance in Document, 13 Aug 1774, Bute County, North Carolina, United States. 2610 Francis Hagwood acknowledged a Deed to Reubin Hagwood (Bute County court minutes, p304).

11. Story. 2611 Francis died or moved elsewhere before the Warren Co tax of 1779. [Bute County split into Warren County and Franklin County in 1779. Could he be in Franklin Co?]
