John Hagood Sr was born shortly before 1706, son of George (Sr) and Ann Hogwood.

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

1. Appearance in Document, 20 Dec 1727, Surry County, Virginia Colony. 943 The will of John's father George Hagood says "I do apoint my tow sons George and John Hagood to be my Exctrs."

2. Property, 6 Feb 1733, Brunswick County, Virginia, United States. 1677 John received land from his brother William via a deed of lease and release. The lease segment reads as follows: "This Indenture made this Sixth day of ffebruary in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred & thirty three between Wm Hagood of Brunswick County ... and John Hagood of the said County ... Witnesseth that the said Wm Hagood for ... the sum of five Shillings Sterling ... hath ... sold ... unto sd. John Hagood .. percel or tract of Land Containing three hundred & forty five acres ... on the North side of Meherrin River ... beginning at a Red & White Oake Near Totero Creek ... the sd. percell of Land being Granted to Geo Hagood by patten dated the (blank) ... to hold ... during the term of one year .... (signed) William Hagood." Witnessed by M C Young and James Vaughan. No additional payment was noted in the release deed, therefore the whole transfer was basically a gift from William to his brother John. (Brunswick Co Record Book 1, p95)

3. Property, 2 Mar 1741, Brunswick County, Virginia, United States. John Hagood sold 100 acres on south side of Totero Creek for 5 shillings to a younger brother, Francis Hagood, "being land where said Frances [sic] Hagood now lives". (Brunswick Co Record Book 2, p140)

4. Property, 15 Oct 1746, Surry County, Virginia Colony. Deed from John Hagood and Mary his wife, of Brunswick Co, to Thomas Cocke of Surry Co, about 100 acres in Southwarke Parish in Surry Co on the east side of Blands Swamp ... land is part of a tract posessed by Thomas Bird formerly of Surry Co, and inherited by the said Thomas Bird's 2 daughters Elizabeth and Tabitha ... Elizabeth married Robert Lanair Sr of Surry Co, by whom she has her eldest son, John Lanair, who was father to the said Mary Hagood ... (Surry Co Deed Book 4, p478)

5. Residence, 1755, Orange County, North Carolina, United States. 2606 John Hagood Sr may have left Brunswick Co in the early 1750s leaving his namesake and eldest son John Jr with the land on Totero Creek. The senior John is probably the "John Hogwood & son James" found in Orange Co, NC, on the tax of 1755.

John married Mary LANAIR, daughter of John LANAIR and Unknown.
