3. Appearance in Document, 7 May 1756, Orange County, North Carolina Colony. 989 Hugh Laughlan is a sworn chain carrier for the survey of property for William McFerson.

4. Appearance in Document, 7 Jun 1758, Orange County, North Carolina Colony. 1190 Hugh Laughlan is sworn chain carrier on survey of property for John Piles.

6. Story. 2505 Hugh and Mary were two of the first settlers of the Spring Meeting area. Hugh and Thomas Lindley had adjoining property, and they cooperated in the construction and operation of Lindley's Mill on Cane Creek. Hugh and Mary were not members of the Society of Friends in NC, although Mary may have been a member in Kennett Township, Chester County, PA. Hugh arrived with his parents in Pennsylvania in 1740. Hugh and Mary were married in Delaware. His name appears in the tax list of Kennett Township first in 1748-9, and finally in 1751. They went to NC around 1751.
