1. Census, 1810, Orange County, North Carolina, United States. John Allen's household includes 2 males 10-16 [Joel, Solomon] (Orange Co, p832)

2. Residence, Bef 1817, Orange County, Indiana, United States. 2384 7m-31-1824 - Charity writes a letter from Orange County Indiana to her father-in-law John Allen Sr. In her letter Charity writes "... Joel has Been gon Seven years and no telling where he is or whether living or not." [so presumably Joel and Charity were in Orange Co Indiana by 1817]

3. Residence, Bef 1822. 2385 "Gone to the West" by 1822, according to draft of father's will.

4. Appearance in Document, 17 Nov 1825, Orange County, North Carolina, United States. 2117,2385 The will of [father] John Allen mentions son Joel as follows: "I give and bequeath to my son Joel Allen twenty five dollars if he comes to demand it of my executors, which with what I have already given him and what he is now owing me is to be in full of his share or part of my estate." Joel does not receive any share of the land or other property, which is divided amongst the other children. In a draft of the will on 5m-9-1822, his father says "My son Joel -- now gone to the West."

5. Story, 29 Jun 1847, Indiana, United States. 6m-29-1847 - D C Allen of Spiceland, Indiana, writes a letter to William Allen, saying: "Respected Uncle Wm. Allen, Uncle Joel Allen was here last summer. He says he lives at Lewisville [Louisville?], Ky., and works in the boat yard and that he has no wife. He... told me that he was not able to buy a Negro's supper but showed Samuel about fifty dollars in gold. He told them at Carthage that he had a wife at Jeffersonville, Ia [Indiana] and upon the whole we know but little about him. He went from here to Randolph (County, Ind.) and that is the last that I know of him..."
