1. Residence, 4 Feb 1769, Cane Creek Mtg, Orange County, North Carolina Colony. 37 James Newlin received on certificate.

2. Residence, 1772, Orange County, North Carolina, United States. 1798 Around 1772 acquired land on both sides of Cane Creek but he built his house a few hundred yards north of the stream.

3. Story: Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. 1798 Helped found Chatham Meeting. At the time, the meeting was located in Chatham County, but later realignment of the county boundaries "moved" the meeting to Alamance County.

4. Alt. Death, 15 Dec 1813. 2097

5. Story: Memorial Marker: Spring Mtg Cemetery, Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. Marker at Spring Mtg cemetary says "In Memory of James and Deborah (Lindley) Newlin. James, son of John and Mary (Pyle) Newlin, born in Pennsylvania, 27-IX-1747, died in this community 15-X-1813; married 22-I-1772 Deborah, daughter of Thomas and Ruth H. Lindley, born 28-VI-1755. In 1823, Deborah moved to Indiana. Their children: Mary 1772, Ruth 1775, John 1776, Sarah Katherine 1778, Hannah 1780, Eleanor 1785, William 1786, Deborah 1787, Jonathan 1789, Thomas 1790, Nathaniel 1791. Erected 1963 by Southeastern Newlin Association. This stone is from John and Mary Pyle Newlin's Chimney."

Marriage, 22 Jan 1772, Cane Creek Mtg, Orange County, North Carolina Colony. 37,391,1126 Whereas James Newlin son of John Newlin of the County of Orange & Province of North Carolina and Deborah Lindly daughter of Thomas Lindly of the County and province afforesd having declared their intentions of marriage with each other before seveal monthly meetings of the people called Quakers at Cane Creek in the said county according to the good order used among them & having consent of parents and relations concerned their sd proposals of marriage was aproved of by the sd meeting.
Now these are to certify whome it may concern that for the full accomplishing their sd intentions of marriage this twenty second day of the first month in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & seventy two the sd James Newlin & Deborah Lindly appeared in a publick meeting of the sd people at Spring meeting house in the sd county & the sd James Newlin taking the sd Deborah Lindly by the hand did in a solumn manner openly declare that he took her the sd Deborah Lindly to be his wife promising with the Lord assistance to be unto her a faithful husband until death should separate them and then and there in the same assembly the sd Deborah Lindly did in like manner declare that she took the sd James Newlin to be her husband promising with the Lords assistance to be until him a faithful & loving wife until death should separate them or words to this effect and moreover they the sd James Newlin & Deborah Lindly the according to the custom of marriage assuming the same or her husband as a further confirmation thereof and then & there to these present set their hands. Witnesses James Newlin, Deborah Newlin, John Newlin, Thomas Lindly, Mary Newlin, Wm Lindly, Mary Lindly, Thos Lindly Junior, Sarah Lindly, Joshua Hadly, Ruth Hadly, Mary Woody, George Maris, Elinor Maris.

2. Appearance in Document: Quaker Minutes, 1 Feb 1772, Cane Creek Mtg, Orange County, North Carolina Colony. 2099 1st of 2nd mo 1772. The friends appointed to attend the marriage of James Newlin and Deborah Lindley report it was orderly accomplished.
