Marker at Spring Mtg cemetery says "In memory of John Newlin and Mary Pyle, his wife, pioneers, who settled 2 miles east of here in 1768. Ancestors of the Newlin family of NC and the west. Married at Concord PA 18th day 9th month 1745. John died 1805"
Noted events in his life were:
1. Story, 1765. 1163 In 1765 John Newlin took up a tract of land on the south side of Haw River bordering the land of John Woody and John Carter. Three years later he brought his wife Mary Pyle and their five children to their new home.
2. Residence, 4 Feb 1769, Cane Creek Mtg, Orange County, North Carolina Colony. 37 John and Mary Newlin and daughters Hannah and Mary moved from Concord Mtg, PA, to Cane Creek Mtg, NC. They left Concord around 6 July 1768.
3. Religion: Quaker.
