12. Story: Orange County, North Carolina Colony. The area of Orange Co where George appears to have settled is near University Lake, south of Chapel Hill. Today, Phils Creek joins Neville Creek just west of University Lake, and Morgan Creek flows into University Lake from the north. Jones Ferry Road crosses these two streams. There is a McCauley Mtn in the same area. The names Neville and McCauley appear frequently in the deeds of the Hagood family. Morgan Creek flows out of University Lake and into Jordan Lake. The area where Morgan Creek and New Hope Creek meet is now within Jordan Lake.

Deed from Mark Cooper to Jesse Nevill mentions Jesse Hagwood, Bird Hagwood, and "red oak formerly called Hagwood's corner" (Orange Co Deed Book 4, p277) [this supports the idea that Jesse and Bird are George's sons, as he was associated with Hagwood's corner]

(from research by James Haywood, sent to me by Brenda McLendon. James says he has doubts about George Jr being the father of Byrd and Jesse, and thinks there was another George Jr in between this one and Bird. He has no proof, but there is another George Jr on a Tithe list)

22. Story. 101 George Hagood Jr, born probably before 1706, son of George Sr and Ann Hogwood. He married Martha. He was old enough to be executor of his father's will in 1727. He followed his brother William to Brunswick Co, VA.
