3. Obituary, 12 Jan 2005. Mrs. Izeta Short "Shortie" Downing, 85, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Downing was the former owner and operator of Shorties Beauty Shop for 41 years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Myrta C. Downing Bible Class. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church on Anderson Street with the Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 3. Mrs. Downing is survived by a son, W. Roy Downing of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home and at other times at the home of W. Roy Downing, 104 Baywood Road, Fayetteville.
