The deceased was a native of the county in which he died. Owing to his youth he was not called upon to take any part in our struggle for independence; but in early life he engaged in a war more protracted in its duration, and fought with more important results -- a war, in which the soldier is not discharged till death, and if victorious, receives a crown of immortality. Religiously trained by pious parents, he soon connected himself with the Church. Certain prominent traits of character pointed him out as being suitable for a member of session; which office he filled with credit to himself and usefulness to the Church. He was a member of the Associate Church until she became embarrassed in her circumstances, when, in connection with the Rev. Thos. Ketchen and many others, he joined the Associate Reformed Church. The grace of humility appeared conspicuous in his walk, religious conversation was his delight, salvation by free grace was his favorite theme."
