1. Census, 1810, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. Joseph McCain is age 26-45, living with 3 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 female under 10, 1 female 26-45, and 1 slave (Mecklenburg Co, p476)

2. Residence. 1384 Joseph McCain, the youngest son of the original Hugh, moved to the west.

3. Story. 1389,1390 Left Mecklenburg Co., NC just before 1820. Living York Co, SC 1820-1830. Settled Walker Co, GA ca 1837 in area that became part of Chatooga Co, GA 1838. Living Chattooga Co, GA 1840-1850. Sold land Chatooga Co, GA 1855. Joseph living with son, Robert M McCain, Merrellton area, Calhoun Co, AL 1860. Children Hugh m. Elizabeth B. 4. Story. 1392 Letter from Lillian T King, Clerk of Ordinary, of Chatooga Co, GA. "Our records show that Hugh Montgomery left will which was probated in 1852. Executors Madison and barclay Montgomery, Samuel Knox and Robert Broyles. Inventory and appraisment sale, appraisers John Montgomery, John Wyatt, Robert Allen, J N McCain. The following signed for their part of estate: B Montgomery, Robt Broyles, Samuel Knox, James and Wm Montgomery and Agnes Cunningham."

5. Story. 1391 Son of Hugh McCain and Eleanor Nutt McCain, Joseph married Jeanete Moore March 28 1799. They moved to Georgia in the mid 1830s. Jeanette died in 1857. Joseph and Jeanette are in the 1850 Chattooga County Georgia Census and Joseph is in the household of his son Robert in Calhoun County Alabama in 1860. His obituary appeared in the Jacksonville Republican on April 23 1863. It says "DIED -- At the residence of his son in this county, on the 12th day of March last, in the 86th year of his age, Joseph N. McCain. The deceased was a native of North Carolina, and was for many years, an elder in the Seceder Church; he uniformly led an honest and upright life, respected and loved by all who knew him, and died a peaceful death."

6. Obituary, 23 Apr 1863, Jacksonville, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. 1391 His obituary appeared in the Jacksonville Republican on April 23 1863. It says "DIED -- At the residence of his son in this county, on the 12th day of March last, in the 86th year of his age, Joseph N. McCain. The deceased was a native of North Carolina, and was for many years, an elder in the Seceder Church; he uniformly led an honest and upright life, respected and loved by all who knew him, and died a peaceful death."
